For those familiar with Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA), this will come as no surprise: each episode of the series begins with essentially Katara explaining the concept of the show. If you haven’t watched the show in a while, you may have forgotten that what she says at the beginning of the very first episode is different. Basically, it’s longer, explains that a war has been going on for 100 years, that her and Sokka’s dad went to fight in the war, that people are scared that the Avatar cycle has been broken and that everyone is doomed. It’s exposition to give viewers context for what’s going on.
